Getting Linux approved for your desktop at work, or finding ways to deal with your local clone of "Mordac the Preventer of IS". ArticlesArticles to help you to convince others. CIO Magazine- The Myths of Open Source (March 2004) TransmetaOkay, this was too easy. Heck, *Linus* worked there (and ranked as a "Fellow" on the engineering advancement scale!) so it was a given that they'd have Linux on the desktop. They use it for everything except passing documentation to customers. (Doh!) The joke of this story is that Dave Taylor (ddt@ddt.com, the guy who ported Doom to Linux) said that it was specifically because the people negotiating with him had used MS-Word documents left over from a previous offer that he was able to sell his work for such a good price. His Linux-based MS-Word converter showed him the "hidden" revisions, including the amount offered to another game developer for a similar work. They had simply used the same "offer.doc" file, without realizing that the change-history was being recorded en-toto. Lots of folks at Transmeta heard Dave tell this story but no one seemed able to change the behavior of the Marketing department.
