Meeting Notes for April 9, 2005The meeting was held at Waukesha County Technical College in Room B181 of the Business Building from 1300 to 1500. Twenty-two persons were in attendance. General businessConducted by Jerry Davis. May votingJerry announced that he is withdrawing his nomination to the Board in view of his anticipated relocation to a warmer climate. Mary Ann reminded the group that eligibility to vote is based on attendance at four meetings during the past year, and she will post a list of those already eligible or who will meet the quota if they attend the May meeting. LibraryJerry contributed a number of books that members are free to borrow, and also a stack of magazines free for the taking. Future presentationsGlenn said he waiting to hear whether someone from OpenOffice.org would give us a presentation, and he invited volunteers to give other presentations. May - Dale Noll offered to talk about start up scripts and asked that anyone who has done customizations send him an email so he can include these. June - Jerry will talk about regular expressions. July - Roger will do a "down & dirty with grub". It was suggested that we have a talk on MythTV - Darrick said one of the Fond du Lac LUG members might be willing to give this. In this regard, it was mentioned that anyone planning to buy a HDTV card should do so before the July 1 regulations take effect. Darrick said this is the topic Monday April 11 at the Fond du Lac LUG for anyone interested. Using SlimDevices Slimserver with the Squeezebox Digital Music Player13:40 to 14:40 by Darrick Hartman Darrick connected the Squeezebox Player to his computer and connected speakers to it, and then downloaded SlimServer. The box has a display and remote control through which various configurations can be made. He showed how the remote is used to call up a playlist, and various searches can be done, eg by artist. The box can even set a timer to serve as an alarm clock and wake you up with music. In a home setting, each room or area could have a box which would play whatever pieces are desired from the server. Also, the server can control what is playing on each unit. A wireless version is now available, and Darrick can sell both the wired and wireless units to members at a good discount. OtherThere was some discussion of Ubuntu, which Darrick had on his laptop to show anyone interested. Some installation disks were also provided.
