Meeting2007_08
Meeting Notes August 11, 2007Configuration and use of ssh; NoMachine's NX technologiesThe Milwaukee Linux User's Group annual Installfest is scheduled for September 8th. Whil Hentzen led a discussion on the configuration and use of the secure shell, ssh, including the use of ports other than 22, "connection refused" or "no response" errors, the use of /etc/hosts.deny and hosts.allow, logs, and interactions with iptables. Joe Baker introduced NoMachine's NX technologies to run remote X11 sessions across slow or low-bandwidth network connections on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris clients. Using X protocol compression and caching techniques, clients accessing applications running on an NX (Linux or Solaris) server can experience enhanced performance even on older hardware. Chad Kittel suggested that MLUG members consider participating in BarCampMilwaukee2 on October 13-14, possibly in place of the regularly scheduled meeting on the 13th. 16 people attended the meeting.
